OpenDataNI Innovation and Outreach Fund 2021-2022 launch

7 december 2021

OpenDataNI has just recently celebrated its 6th birthday, and in that time a lot has happened in open data here in Northern Ireland. From a starting point of 50 datasets or so, we have grown to now have 711 datasets available, with more and more data in the pipeline.

A key part of our growth has been the engagement and enthusiasm of the local open data community, helping us with comments, observations and advice, as well as taking part in our competitions, and in the last two years, availing of the OpenDataNI Innovation and Outreach Fund, to create innovative applications and spread the word far and wide on all things 'open data'.

Updates on how our successful Fund applicants of last year are getting on will follow soon, (so watch this space!), but Open Data time never stands still and so we come once more to the launch of another years’ Fund.

Just as with previous years, the Fund seeks applications from NI residents or organisations in the following categories:

  • Category A – Innovation with OpenDataNI data - developing some product or service to derive a clear benefit or impact for specified audiences or groups.
  • Category B – Advocacy, Outreach and Engagement - raising awareness and promoting re-use of open data.

In addition to these familiar Fund categories, this years’ Fund introduces a new category:

  • Category C – Transparency, Openness and Unlocking value in data - promoting transparency in government as a means to bring societal benefits.

The closing date for applications is Friday 4th March 2022.
