All data are sourced from ICOS (Integrated Court Operations System). The data include Youth Magistrates Criminal Court defendants dealt with. The data have been aggregated by the Processing Court Office. The court structure in Northern Ireland does not equate to the court structures of England and Wales, Scotland or the Republic of Ireland. The magistrates' court hears and determines less serious criminal cases, cases involving youths and some civil and domestic cases. The data included in this dataset refers to Youth criminal defendants only. A magistrates' court is presided over by a district judge (magistrate court) sitting alone, and the maximum prison sentence that can be imposed is 12 months in prison unless consecutive terms of imprisonment are imposed for more than one offence, when the limit is extended to 18 months.
