The number of participants in bankruptcy petition cases disposed in the High Court. Datasets are produced on an annual year basis. The dataset is entered onto the NICTS database, ICOS. The data are then extracted and merged with the CPD, and aggregated information uploaded to this portal.
The dataset contains information on participants in bankruptcy cases that were disposed of in each Assembly Area. There may be more than one participant in a case. There are two participants groups and two disposal categories in the aggregated dataset that are summarised below:
- Number of participants in a petition by another person - bankruptcy order
- Number of participants in a petition by debtor - bankruptcy order
- Number of participants - other order.
When a case is disposed of, it may have more than one final order made. This database contains the last final order made. Other orders include dismissal, strike out and free text orders.
Users of this data may have been able to self-identify themselves due to the low values in some cells. Primary and secondary disclosure control methods have been applied to this data, denoted by cells with missing data in the tables. Values of less than four participants, but not zero participants, were initially suppressed, but some of these values could have been calculated using some row and column totals and thus secondary suppression was applied to the next lowest value in the row and column.
The postcode coverage proportion of each year’s data is as follows: 2010, 99.9%; 2011, 99.1%; 2012, 92.8%; 2013, 94.0%; 2014, 91.4%; 2015, 91.7%; 2016, 87.4%; 2017, 92.9%; 2018, 93.3%; 2019, 91.4%; 2020, 94.6%; 2021, 95.4%; 2022, 93.3%; 2023 91.0%
