2021 IMPORTANT INFORMATION Please be aware that during 2020 & 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, with the agreement of the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI), NI Water reduced potable water sampling as part of the plan to protect staff and customers, whilst maintaining assurance that there was no risk to public health from public water supplies. This included the cessation of all sampling at customer taps, with a reduced number of parameters sampled upstream at Service Reservoirs. The reductions commenced at the start of April 2020. From 18 May 2020 sampling returned to the regulatory frequencies, with the exception of a small number of customer tap specific parameters. NI Water recommenced sampling at public buildings with effect from 21st June 2021, and recommenced sampling at private customer taps with effect from 13th September 2021. Due to the increased risk to our staff and customers from the Omicron COVID-19 variant, with the agreement of DWI, NI Water again ceased sampling at customer taps with effect from 20th December. These samples were again collected at upstream Service Reservoirs, with some customer tap only parameters excluded.

This dataset comprises summary results taken from Customer Taps and Authorised Supply Point by NI Water during 2021 to meet the requirements of the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2017 as amended. Samples collected from customer taps are taken at random addresses in each water supply zone. A water supply zone is a designated area with a residential population of no more than 100,000 supplied with water by one treatment works or blended water from several works. Under the regulations, NI Water is able to analyse certain parameters which do not change in the distribution system at the supplying water treatment works as an Authorised Supply Point. The number and boundaries of water supply zones are subject to change according to operational requirements as supply sources to areas are adjusted to meet demand and infrastructure developments.
