PSNI fixed penalties and speed courses for motoring offences 2017 - 2022

The PSNI produces statistics on motoring offences that are detected by the police. Motoring offences can be dealt with by issuing a fixed penalty notice (FPN), attendance at a speed awareness course or referral for prosecution. Figures relating to those offences referred for prosecution are excluded from these statistics.

The dataset contains information on the number of motoring offences detected by the PSNI between 2017 and 2022 and dealt with by means of a FPN or speed awareness course. The variables include a unique ID, offence date, offence time, offence type, disposal, FPN Type, Local Government District (based on where the offence occurred), speed limit, speed detected (grouped), offender age (grouped), offender gender. This dataset does not include PSNI motoring offences that were referred for prosecution as these figures are not currently finalised. In addition this dataset does not include detections for speeding or red light running by the NI Road Safety Partnership.
